Just when you thought Christmas was over and we were on our way to Easter, Valentines Day and (my personal favourite) Pancake Day, three feet of snow descends on us. I want to make snow angels, have a snow ball fight, go sledging etc etc but then I remember my friends aren't twelve anymore and besides, it's bloody cold.
I always think England gets a bit too dramatic over snow what with the 'amber warnings', cancelling all scheduled flights, closing down schools and warning everyone not to go outside. I popped on my 'M&S' thermal vest, 'Ugg' boots, two jumpers, ear muffs and my parka and went to work, business as usual!
I spent all day looking forward to curling up in bed later dreaming of warm duvets and my new favourite show 'Downton Abbey'. I know I'm a good three series too late on this but I have to watch something from start to end and I'd already missed the first series before I'd heard about the hype. The same can be said for 'Sparticus', 'Gavin and Stacey' and 'Prison Break' all of which I've had to wait to get the complete boxset and then set aside a good month of my life to watch an episode a night (clearly when single).
So I went into 'Debenhams' knowing full well they were having their blue cross sale where everything is either 20%, 50% or 70% off. I sprinted to the homeware department and there it was-the perfect throw cushion! I love a good blanket/candle/lamp/picture frame/vase of flowers/mirror but throw cushions are my latest thing since I moved. My room is a girly paradise of anything peach, pink, cream or beige filled with candles and fairy lights and flowers and I love it because it's my own space and everything is exactly how I like it.
I like to invest in my throw cushions. I figure I'll take them with me from flat to house to mansion to bungalow to care home. If I spot one that instantly makes me smile and fills me with happiness and wonder I buy it there and then because I know when I come home from work, open my bedroom door and see it I will get that same happy feeling every single day. In fact I apply that rule to anything in life.
" If it makes you smile, hang onto it."
This particular one was £25 and by 'Black by Betty Jackson'. I did my usual rule and walked around the store for a while thinking 'do you need this??' and the answer was yes. I went back to find it and it made me smile all over again so I gave it a quick squeeze and walked confidently over to the till. And that's when the sales lady made my day 'It's half price!' she said. 'Blimey! That was lucky!' I replied and then hugged myself with glee as more sales ladies came to coo over my throw cushion and ask me where I'd found it.
Sad I know.
So with my new cushion in place I lit my candles, threw on my little sisters cow onesie pj's...
made myself a hot ribena...
and looked out of the window at the night time snow on my garden lawn.
Happy Snow Day!
Bella
