Going out in the North is not like going out in the South. You have to look pretty fierce and on top of your trends at all times and some voluminousness hair and power heels are always appreciated. So I went for a leather mini skirt (£40), a mesh crop top (£22) and my new heels (£55) all from 'Topshop' accessorized with my usual friendship bracelets and my friends 'New Look' clutch.
So off we went on the town.
It was a Saturday in the middle of the city centre at 11pm at night in probably one of the busiest clubs in the North. We walk in and see...
- Flared jeans
- Tunic tops
- Flesh coloured tights
- Snakeskin gold boob tube dresses
- Scrunchies
- Leggings
- Far too much leopard print
- Tutu style dresses
- Short shorts
- Corsets
- Shirts tucked into stone wash denim jeans
- Football tshirts
- Tshirts that belong in the 90's
- Tshirts that belong in the gym
- Cashmere jumpers casually thrown over shoulders
- Work suits
- Work shoes worn with jeans
- Vest tops
I don't mean to be super mean here but this is a club on a Saturday night where one cider is nearly £7! If you can't dress up on your one night out a week then what is going on here?
I want to bring back the art of dressing up which I fear is getting lost. I don't mean going for a sparkly catsuit just because it's got a bit of glitter on it and that therefore is 'dressing up' (been there, done that, 1997). I mean showing off your creative talents and fashion knowledge that you just can't do in the daytime. I don't go out more than once or twice a month so when I do I like to wear the things that have been sitting there in my wardrobe just waiting for an excuse to be unpractical but jaw dropping. My body hides under woolly jumpers, skinny jeans and 'Ugg' boots for six days out of seven so I reserve my right as a 22 year old to show off what God gave me whilst it's all still in place.
There are some girls who will happily throw a fresh tshirt on and go out to a club and are perfectly happy with that (I know because every now and again I am that girl) but what's the point of being a female if you don't bother to have a good rummage in your dressing up box? It's our right of passage as girls to wear heels so use and abuse it! If you want to take three hours getting ready you should feel free to, it's what we do best. Sometimes I prefer the getting ready part to the actual going out!
Most of my uni nights were spent sitting in one of my housemates bedrooms pouring 'Lambrini' into mismatched cups, gossiping about everything and anything, doing each others hair, make up, eyelashes, trying on everyone's clothes and getting recommendations on shoes, bags, accessories, nail colours...it was the best bit about Uni! If I could go back and live with ten girls again I would do it in a heartbeat just so every night could be a catwalk show all over again :)
So to summarise: When in doubt, wear high heels!
