A Valentines pep talk...

I know Pancake Day isn't even over yet but I'm REALLY excited for Valentines Day! Technically I should hate the day as this will be the first year I don't have a Valentine of my own, but I don't. Usually I try and forget about the whole thing, sometimes I'll go for food or make a card but I've happily forgotten all about it on more than one occasion, in fact I find it's the guys that make a bigger deal out of it than the girls!

If you're single don't hide under your duvet till the big red hearts have vanished. I always smile when I see guys dashing around town picking up flowers and buying cards at the last minute or when I see old couples holding hands or slow dancing or young couples on double dates laughing in restaurants. It reminds me that love is all around us and even if you're suffering from the aftermath of a break up it's always nice to be reminded that life goes on, people fall in love, and you will smile and hold hands and get Valentines cards all over again.

Weirdly everyone I know seems to be assessing their current situations and having catastrophically dramatic break ups so I've been on hand for pep talks left, right and centre! And as I keep reminding my freshly single stars,Valentines Day isn't just for couples, show your mother, brother, sister, lover how much they mean to you as well,  it's for everyone, young and old, rich and poor, for better or worse. Love doesn't have a colour, age or gender, it just is <3

First things first, put on your favourite outfit! Today is a day for dusky pinks, dark burgundy's and deep reds.  

Don't wait for a guy to buy you flowers, buy your own. And whilst you're there, buy someone for the one you love as well.

Go for a mug of something warm. You don't have to have money to show someone you love them, just a little time.

But if you doooo...give them something sweet that will make them smile :)

Make Valentines snacks for your office and spread the love.

Get involved with the heart balloons, silly poems and soppy cards. If you can't beat 'em you might as well join 'em.

Have a romantic night in. Set the mood with vanilla candles, fairy lights and 'your' song and let the magic happen? Or invite your girlfriends round and get the chick flick marathon started.

Daydream..

Because true love does exist. It can last forever. And it is the best. Whether it's with your niece, best friend, next door but one neighbour or the person who drives the sandwich van to deliver your lunch. It all counts.
